Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapists at T.O.P. Rehab combine in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability.

Our goal is to alleviate your pain and discomfort and restore your mobility, flexibility, and strength to maximize independence and enhance your health and well-being. Our physiotherapists are registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, and are members of the Ontario and Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Our physiotherapists conduct a holistic individualized assessment of your physical function and create a treatment plan that meets your individual needs and enables you to return to your activities of daily living as quickly as possible. Our therapists use a combination of hands on manual treatment, along with the use of various modalities to best meet your individual care needs.

Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic

TOP Rehab’s Chiropractor is trained in the assessment, diagnosis, management and injury prevention strategies of spine, muscle and nervous system conditions.  They will recommend a course of treatment to help relieve pain, improve mobility, flexibility and function which may include mobilization, soft tissue therapy, education, and modalities (i.e. ultrasound or laser), acupuncture and rehabilitation.  Chiropractors are trained in spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) allowing them to provide adjustments using highly skilled and precise movements to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function. (This motion can be accompanied by an audible pop. When a joint is adjusted, an air bubble may escape from the joint capsule causing the popping noise, like cracking your knuckles.)

Therapeutic benefits of Chiropractic care include:

  • Improved movement in your neck, shoulders, back and torso

  • Improved posture

  • Relief from headaches, neck and back pain

  • Improved mobility, flexibility and function

Physiotherapy

Osteopathy

"Osteopathy is the knowledge of the structure, relation and function of each part of the human body applied to the correction of whatever interferes with its harmonious operation." George V. Webster, D.O., 1921

Osteopathy is a safe and natural therapy that focuses on the framework of the body; the bones, ligaments, muscles and connective tissues or fascia.  Osteopathy utilizes a holistic approach to assessment and treatment and is based on the belief that the human body has the innate ability to heal itself without medical or surgical intervention.

Osteopaths utilize various soft tissue treatment techniques which are aimed at stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms thereby restoring normal function. The position, mobility, and quality of various tissues, fluids, and rhythms of the patient’s body are assessed and from there, treatment is directed towards the restoration of fluid circulation within the body. Ultimately, the goal of osteopathy is to restore the body back to its natural ability to regulate and heal itself.

Back Massage

Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage has been used to help decrease stress and tension in muscles, relieve pain, relax and rejuvenate the body. It is a hands-on technique that focuses on the manipulation of the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and joints.

Our Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) have completed a diploma program at a recognized school of massage therapy and have passed a registration examination offered by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

The benefits of massage therapy include: the release of tight muscles, increased circulation, decreased stiffness, and reduced stress. It is an effective health care practice that will improve of your overall well-being.

Custom Foot Orthotics

A custom orthotic is a biomechanical medical device custom made using your foot imprint/cast designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. Custom foot orthotics help to reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment.

The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by reducing certain motion that takes place while you walk. Custom foot orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole and are tailored to specifically meet your therapeutic needs by our registered physiotherapists.

Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique in which acupuncture needles are inserted into designated acupuncture points or “acupoints.” These points on the skin are believed to be pathways or routes by which the body’s energy or “Chee” flows.

The acupuncture needles may be manipulated by our registered physiotherapist to enhance  the flow of energy or “Chee” within the body to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and inflammation of affected areas of the body. Trigger Point Dry Needling (TPDN) involves the use of acupuncture needles to release trigger points throughout the body. Trigger points are palpable ‘knots’ in muscles that cause pain, stiffness, soreness and restrict normal muscle function. These knots may develop in response to prolonged pain and dysfunction, and may increase pain. TPDN can be used to help alleviate pain and help return you to your regular activities of daily living.

Acupuncture and TPDN are natural, safe and effective, and combined with other rehabilitation services, will facilitate your return to daily function.
